All you blogheads who went to the Festival and blogged about it can piss off!

GIVE WAY TO THE PIONEER LA....!

It's my turn to blog about it now. Ho Ho Ho

No more reverse post like year. heh heh...

First of all, let me tell you that I wasn’t really into taking pictures of the event this year. I didn’t want to feel like I’m on duty or anything like that. So instead of taking my heavy Olympus DSLR along with me I had my small Sony M1 DSC for easy carrying. For the first time this year I loosened up, went wild and really had fun at the festival, tried not to worry about anything else in the world.
Still, there are plenty of pictures… Though, the qualities of the shots aren’t as good. (But you’ll forgive for that, wont you?)
There was this few times I joined the group of press/photographers, jumped into the other side of the railing by the main stages and took a couple of nice close shots of the performers.
Thanks to a dear cousin(nephew??) of mine. You know who you are...

I really need to gain that ‘Access All Area’ thingy for next year because you just want to get away especially from those annoying drunk/high/stoned-sweaty-half-naked-men and the crowds, having them bumping into you and people walking pass or standing in front of you while you’re struggling to get nice shots of the performers. I wasn't really into taking photos this year so it's ok lorr.. But I hope that the Sarawak Tourism Board are more than happy to give me a 'Pass' next year. I’ll promise I’d bring the big gun over for some better shots (I’m talking about the big camera, not a real gun).
After all, this blog promotes highly of the Festival every single year, no? Not to mention full information and coverage of the event from year to year and damndirtangel.blogspot.com draws thousands of hits annually for the Rainforest Festival reviews.

The 10th Anniversary this year was indeed the biggest one ever! More turn-ups this year so it's good. The tourism board did an awesome job promoting this stuff like crazy. I found the ads & banners online, in the newspapers, TV, at the malls in shops and boutiques and I even received text messages from Maxis prior to that time of the event. Bravo!

Once again, and yes, for the tenth times, The Rainforest Festival has returned to all us. People from all over the world, near and far gathered for this massive event, ‘a huge ritual in music’ if I may say.
We've made new friends and reunited with those who attended the event the previous years. Some even rekindled with old friends and old flames. Even acknowledge those familiar faces around us at the Cultural Village where the event was held.
This was probably the only time all of us can escape and forget about the bad things that’s happening to our world today…and away from the stress and troubles in our lives.

*above & below are my only decent meals during the Festival. That's 2 meals to be exact. I ain't kidding you*

*Wet and sloppy. I didn't like it.*

*I told you I'd put your picture on heeh...heh*

We’d gathered here at the Rainforest
Surrounded by nature
To make love and peace, not war nor hatred
To be aware of the many cultures around and learn about them
Maybe try to preserve them in the process
And have fun while we’re at it
We unite as one
In the name of music.

*An advice: Don't drink too much at a crowded party*

Honestly speaking, I was quite disappointed with the music this year (well, some of them.) I really wished the musicians would play more of their own tribal sounds and folk music because this is what the Rainforest Festival is all about in the first place. I know commercialization brings in the money and all that but I’ve heard more mainstream songs this year than something what most of us were expecting to hear in the first place. If I want to enjoy mainstream stuff then I can just go to the nearest pub.
Maybe dance to ‘Jump Around’ while a DJ spins it? That was so not ethno-tribal, guys! I personally hated that part of the Rainforest, the dance club music.
Old folk and tribal music should not be altered but to be preserved like ancient scriptures and artifacts. The original sounds of music are treasures to our cultures.

*Workshops*

*2nd day at Dewan Lagenda where all the fun stuff were at*

*Above&Below: The Celts*

*Just too awesome for words.Watch it!*

* 1st time at the Rainforest, Darren of wuichi.blogspot.com took some serious photos. Check his site out!*

I really loved the workshops the most. Those were the only times I really got to hear the original sounds from traditional instruments played by each performers, too bad that it was rather impossible to attend every single workshop within those 3 days.

*I love the sound of a bagpipe. very haunting...*

*Watch and listen to the sounds of bagpipe*

*The Grand Finale. Well, just half of it because cibaiyoutube.com wont allow me to post a video more than 10minutes*

All in all, I had a great time there and I would definitely make it for its 11th years in 2008,
That’s 11th, 12th, 13th of July 2008, precisely. And you guys should do too. Yes, you!

I don't have to link some of you bloggers this year, sorry. You guy are quite famous now even without my help. Heh heh....
